Scarlett Silence was built from 19 photographs using a combination of photo stitching, focus stacking, and bracketing. The scene was photographed with a 24-70mm lens, with the final capture choices shaped by the needs of the stitch, the depth of focus, and the exposure range in the mountain, water, and houses.

Scarlett Silence
A quiet line of red houses holds its ground between mountain, mist, water, and reflection.
Scarlett Silence is simple at first glance, but that simplicity is what gives it strength. The red houses become the only bold voice in an otherwise quiet world of gray mountain, low cloud, still water, and soft reflection. It feels calm without becoming empty, dramatic without becoming loud, and memorable without needing to explain itself.

A single row of red, standing quietly against the weight of the mountain.
This is why people stop at it.
The story behind Scarlett Silence
When our children graduate high school, we told them we would take them on a trip anywhere in the world. Our oldest, Elijah, chose Norway. He has been learning photography and following in his dad's footsteps since he was young, and I have been pouring into him and teaching him everything I can about the art.
This photograph was made during that trip. We spent time flying the drone, chasing landscapes, taking pictures, and simply being together. Elijah stood right next to me while I photographed this scene. He was also shooting and learning how to build a photo stitch.
The scene itself was quiet and striking. The red houses had this calm confidence against the misty mountain and still water. In the end, I chose the pop-of-color interpretation because it let the red remain the emotional center of the piece while everything around it softened into silence.

This one is especially personal because it is tied to Elijah's senior trip. It was not only about making a photograph. It was about standing beside my son in Norway, watching him learn, create, and see the world through a camera. That memory is now built into the piece for me.
The capture and edit
The final edit was shaped into a pop-of-color piece so the red buildings could carry the visual weight of the image. The surrounding tones were softened into black and white to preserve the quietness of the mountain, cloud, and reflection while allowing the red to remain unmistakable.
